Privacy policy

Tim's Aquariums (timsaquariums.com) is run by Tim, a hobbyist aquarium keeper in Irvine, California. This page explains what information the site collects, why, and what you can do about it. Questions go to [email protected].

What we collect

• Waitlist signups. If you join a waitlist on the shop page, we store your email address, the item, how many you said you'd want, and when you signed up.
• Email list. If you ask for a free guide, we store your email address, which guide, and when. You agree on that form to occasional emails about what's in stock. We also set a cookie in your browser that remembers the guide is unlocked.
• Orders. If you buy something, payment is handled by Stripe. We receive your name, email, shipping address and what you ordered so we can ship it. We never see or store your card number.
• Usage counts. We record anonymous events such as “the shop page was viewed” or “someone clicked Notify me on Christmas moss.” These are counts only: no name, email, IP address, cookie or device ID is attached.
• Server logs. Like most websites, our web server keeps standard access logs (IP address, browser type, page requested, time) for security and troubleshooting.
• Your theme choice. If you pick light or dark mode, that preference is saved in your own browser's local storage. It never leaves your device.

We don't use advertising trackers or analytics cookies. The only cookie we set ourselves is the guide unlock cookie above.

How we use it

• Waitlist emails are used only to tell you when that item is available.
• Email list addresses get occasional emails about new guides and what's in stock. Every email has an unsubscribe link.
• Order details are used to ship your order, handle problems with it, and keep records required for taxes.
• Usage counts tell us which products people are interested in.

We don't sell or rent your personal information, and we don't share it for advertising.

Third parties

Some parts of the site rely on other companies, each with its own privacy policy:

• Stripe processes payments.
• USPS and our label provider receive your shipping address to deliver orders.
• Cloudflare delivers the site and protects it from abuse, and may set a security cookie.
• Instagram (Meta) posts are embedded on some pages. Instagram may collect data when an embed loads.
• Amazon. Some posts contain Amazon affiliate links. Amazon tracks purchases made after you click one. See the affiliate disclosure.

How long we keep it

Waitlist emails are kept until the item launches or you ask us to remove you. Email list addresses are kept until you unsubscribe. Order records are kept as long as tax law requires. Server logs are rotated regularly.

Your choices and rights

Email [email protected] to see what we have about you, correct it, or have it deleted, including taking you off any waitlist. California residents have these rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act, and we extend them to everyone. We won't treat you differently for using them.

Do Not Track: we don't track you across other sites, so there is nothing for a Do Not Track signal to turn off.

Children

The site isn't aimed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information. If you think a child has signed up, email [email protected] and we'll delete it.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new effective date.
